Extend the longevity of your Macbook charger and save some money while doing so.

The contraption

These Magsafe adaptors have been touted as revolutionary by the industry and myself as well, but their design still holds one downfall – As your wire twist and turns inside the shrink-wrapped sheath, the wires inside get twisted and eventually break right off.

Cue the ever-useful cable tie! Wrap it around the shrink-wrap sheath both on the Magsafe side and the adaptor brick side and pull it real tight. Done.

I was so excited when I grabbed this bargain USB from a store, but didn’t share the same feelings when I found that it wouldn’t fit in the USB port while the other port was in use.

The original enclosure, with DIY’d stick

So I took it apart. It was so slim, and without the casing it did manage to get along with my other peripherals plugged into the USB port. I grabbed some transparent heat-shrink from an electronics store, before toasting the USB drive with a hairdryer until the heat-shrink hugged the USB. In fact, at one point the stick got so hot that I feared that the solder on the board would liquefy and render my once operational stick, useless.

Who needs in-car music when you’ve got this

Now I can sound cool while driving a fuel efficient car! This intelligent genius of a gizmo plugs into your ciggy lighter and reads your engine’s spinning-speed through the energy generated via the alternator, and then accurately blasts artifical vroom noises (through your radio) to make your ears bleed sweet love.

What is your Persona?

This interesting set of photos takes a revealing peak inside peoples’ (man/hand)bags. Points of interest to note are that:

a. Most people in America carry their passports with them.
b. Many Americans are also equipped with iPhones.
c. Many people featured carry junk; such as action figurines.

Kingston Datatraveler 2gb benchmark

Couldn’t find this online, so I thought I would document this for other people to see (and also gain hits from search engines).

Kingston Datatraveler 2GB (DTI/2GB) [green], USB 2.0 interface

Objective: Investigate the read and write speed of the drive.

Test subject: 701 MB .avi file

Results:

Read: 4.27 MB/s
Write: 3.01 MB/s

Evaluation:

Very slow, even for a consumer-level drive. However, there have been reports of even slower drives out there on the market. Patience is highly recommended.
