Kingston Datatraveler 2gb benchmark

Couldn’t find this online, so I thought I would document this for other people to see (and also gain hits from search engines).

Kingston Datatraveler 2GB (DTI/2GB) [green], USB 2.0 interface

Objective: Investigate the read and write speed of the drive.

Test subject: 701 MB .avi file

Results:

Read: 4.27 MB/s
Write: 3.01 MB/s

Evaluation:

Very slow, even for a consumer-level drive. However, there have been reports of even slower drives out there on the market. Patience is highly recommended.

Yep, this matches up with what I’ve noticed on the green 2 gb Kingston as well. It’s sloooowwww… managed to live with it until I needed to run applications from the stick (PortableApps in this case). Now I’m off to get something quicker (perhaps a Sandisk Contour? They reckon 25 mb/sec read and 18 mb/sec write!)
